Poem Seven — When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon Him and His family) journeyed to Sham with Maysara and Nasih

These verses are Lady Khadijah's (peace be upon Her), spoken in the days the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon Him and His family) was away on the journey to Sham.

The heart of the one who loves is drawn toward the beloved, and the body is plundered by the hands of sickness.

Should one ask Me what the taste of love is, I say to him: love is sweet, yet within it there is torment.

My life be a ransom for those whose distance has spilled My blood and poured My tears upon My cheek.

The tents stand empty and the riders have all gone; none remains but a lover whose beloved dwells in the heart.

As though there were a Yusuf in every quarter, and grief in every house in which there is a Yaqub.
