He Weeps — Not For His Kin
Part 2
Uthman ibn Aban asked Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) about the noble verse:
"…the oppressed among the men, women and children who say: our Lord, bring us out of this town whose people are wrongdoers…"
And he said: ⚜️ «نَحْنُ ذَلِكَ» — those oppressed ones are we.
Yes — this is the household of the Prophet. These are his near kin, the very ones to whom the text of the Qur'an guides:
The people owe no recompense for the Prophet's mission but love of them. For the mission had no purpose but to guide toward them:
He had come to raise high the divinely appointed standards — those banners who are the callers to Allah and the proofs of His good pleasure: «اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الدُّعَاةِ إِلَى اللَّهِ».
And it is Muhammad who weeps — not for his own kin, but for the places of the knowledge of Allah, the dwellings of the blessing of Allah, the mines of the wisdom of Allah, the keepers of the secret of Allah, the bearers of the Book of Allah:
وَ مَعَادِنِ حِكْمَةِ اللَّهِ وَ حَفَظَةِ سِرِّ اللَّهِ وَ حَمَلَةِ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ» [4]
For those whose right has never been recognised, who are ever strangers, the strangest of strangers.
He weeps — not for his brother, but for the truth of the world.
He weeps for one without whose love there is no charity, without whose honouring there is no faith, without whose guardianship there is no Islam and no prayer [5]; for one who is himself the command of Allah and the possessor of the command, the manifester of the command of Allah [6] — yet commanded to silence, and to patience before those who broke the covenant of Allah and disregarded His command:
وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَنْ يُوصَلَ وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ
أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ» [7]
He weeps — but not for his daughter: for Umm Abiha. For her who is the mother of creation, from whose niche the world receives its existence. For her who is the isthmus between truth and falsehood. For her who is the absolute mercy of Allah.
And it is this mercy that stands behind a door beyond which the punishment of Allah displays itself:
She goes, that on the morrow of the Resurrection the worlds may find the proof complete against them.
He weeps for the face of Fatima — the sun of Ismah — as the darkness of Satan's hands closes over it.
And he weeps not for his two grandsons alone, but for all the arks of salvation, the standards of guidance, the lamps in the darkness; for those whose blood is made lawful, and for the dead who are sustained by their blessing:
Ravening wolves fall upon the tearing of them apart. And peace be upon those pure souls:
In the battlefield of the two worlds, victory belongs to love — though every soldier of its army be a martyr.
And it is al-Sadiq of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon him) who says:
By Allah, there is none of us but one slain, a martyr — and he means the children of Fatima, the Muhsinin of the world, granted to Fatima in place of her Muhsin.
What we have said is not a drop of the Imam's station. The Imam's rank is far above this. These words, and far higher than these, belong to the Shi'ah of the Imam — those who are of the Ahl al-Bayt, and the Ahl al-Bayt of them:
