Sermon of Muttaqin, Part 8 — Creator is great within their soul and everything else is small
The Eighth Characteristic of the God-Conscious (Muttaqīn), Based on the Sermon of Muttaqīn by Amir alMu’minin (pbuh)
The Creator is exalted in their hearts, and everything besides Him appears insignificant in their eyes:
“The Creator has become so great within their souls that everything besides Him appears small in their eyes.”
It is narrated that one day the Angel Jibra’il (PBUH) descended to Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) and began describing the attributes of Allah.
Jibra’il said:
“He is the One who gives life and causes death, who provides sustenance and bestows blessings, who forgives and pardons, who is Most Merciful and All-Knowing.”
When Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) heard these divine attributes, he was deeply moved by their majesty and beauty. He said:
“O Jibra’il! Repeat these attributes once more. I am willing to give half of my flock of sheep just to hear these words again.”
Jibra’il repeated the attributes of Allah.
Once again, Ibrahim (PBUH) was overwhelmed and said:
“Repeat them again, and this time I will give you all of my sheep.”
Jibra’il repeated the divine attributes yet again.
Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) then said:
“O Jibra’il! I have nothing left to give, but if it is possible, please recite these attributes for me once more.”
At that moment, Jibra’il said:
“O Ibrahim! This longing and love you have for hearing the attributes of your Lord has been accepted by Allah. Because of this devotion, Allah has chosen you as His Khalil (Intimate Friend).”
